Chuck,

For a EWE, 500 ohms will not work. Mine sits at about 950 ohms here. I
like a bit of leeway too. For a beverage 500 ohms might work. In my
case, I tried using a pot at the end of the 1500' Eastern beverage and
it works better connected directly to the ground rods.
