Patrick-

I know exactly how you feel as the same thing has happened to me and is still ongoing. The only good news is that I know exactly from which house the brutal RFI is emanating. It's the unhealthy woman next door (due East of me thus killing TA's.) I know it's some device in her house (possibly a plasma TV) because, when she went away for 3 months, the noise stopped completely and, the day she returned, so did the buzz that covers the MW band and up to at least 10 mHz. She is not exactly easy to talk to so all I can do is wait. Meanwhile, if a signal is really strong it will break through the buzz but serious DX is out of the question unless I go mobile.

Also, she leaves her TV on 24/7. I guess it keeps her company to some degree. It is sad that she is that lonely but I wish someone would teach her about sleep timers so that at least it would turn off for a few hours.

This is a problem that is becoming more common all of the time and is a threat to our hobby. Who cares? Only us.

Hi Everyone,

Yes, indeed I am alive and well. As Bill stated, something in the neighborhood has shown up in the past few years that really knocks out the dial. I feel it is not the power lines, but something else. Even though the area has underground power, there are still neighbors close enough and anything can cause the noise. I couple weeks ago I did have one day without the noise and the power was on. A lot of older people live in the area too and any could have a medical device that could cause the noise. Plus Pot is now legal in Oregon so dryers and other noise makers could be the cause. I attended the Reno convention this year and had a great time. I am still very much interested in the hobby, but I may have to wait until the dial gets quieter. I got a good gain FM Yagi from Germany, via Les and it works quite nicely for FM, so it still is not MW. I do a lot of streaming too. People around here move and pass on, it is just a matter of time when the dials gets more quiet. That is if
I live that long. hi. I just I have to add that in there, as I will be 69 in March, but as others can attest I am still in good shape. Hopefully I will stay that way for a while. Thanks for asking.

Pat, has did very little DXing in the last few years due to a very high noise level. Also he has been in one location for a long time and it was getting very hard to hear anything new.
