I said they are a good learning platform, and say a kind of proof of
concept of what can be achieved with basic hardware, and the genius of
software.
I don't expect a US$ 9.00 dongle to perform like a US$1000 SDR. They are
great performers for the cost, but no DX machine by any stretch.
In any case, I'm not trying to convince anybody to drop their Elads or
Perseus in favor of an RTL dongle. But if anybody feels so inclined, I
have 4 RTL dongles that I would be willing to trade for your Elad or
Perseus. LOL

I don't feel that Softrocks and RTL dongles are anywhere near a reference point for SDRs. They are both at the very bottom of the price and performance range. They simply can not compete with a QS1R, Perseus, etc.
