I feel the same way, and this is based on my experience with SoftRocks
and RTL dongles only vs. good amateur radio transceivers. Never owned a
desktop receiver only.
The Elad DUOr, and the upcoming Icom 8600 are 100% SDRs, no ifs, ands,
and buts. They are desktop receivers that work without a computer, fully
self contained, but also have an I/Q output for use with the same SDR
software used with the black box versions.
