In the heyday of midnight sign-offs, no PSSA, scheduled Monday morning
silence, in other words back in the late 70s and early 80s, my TRF 12-655
outperformed everything else on MW. As an example, from the quiet of
central PA, Seattle's KOMO became a frequent MM visitor, troubled only by
Radio Mil. On MW, the Sony ICF-2001 couldn't touch it until I connected the
external longwire.
Today, I have two -2010s for portable work, easily as sensitive as the TRF,
with better selectivity. I still have the TRF, though, and when used with a
2010, angled slightly out of phase, makes for some interesting listening.
Drives my wife crazy, though, when I have two radios playing nearly the same
thing, but not quite.

I've used a lot of portables over the years for MW dxing, dating back to the
Panasonic RF-2200 and continuing through the Sony 2010, and more recently
Sangean ATS-909, Grundig YB400PE, and Sony ICF-SW7600GR. I've gotten varied
results with all of them, most of them good to excellent. The best was
probably the 2010.
I'm curious as to what portables you have had the best luck with.
