Everyone,

The latest thread about Update on California Stations has gone into a 
new folder in my e-mail client
(Thunderbird v1.0). Fascinating.

I'm a native to California, and my last residential stay in California 
is where my cancer bout started.
Delano (CA) remains a mixture of a dream and nightmare in Hell. The 
VOA's Delano Transmitter
Station was a wonderful home for two years. But Delano town is a place 
where I had to reconcile
my idealistic HS studies in Mexican Spanish Language and Culture with 
the death of American
culture and civilization at the hands of Mexican immigrants, legal and 
illegal.

And so anything new about California is something I have to approach 
gingerly, with a view to
quickly dropping and running away from the topic like a scalded dog...

Understand that Coalinga (CA) comes from "Coaling [station] A" on one of 
the railroads back
many decades ago. Trying to approach the word "coalinga" from a 
linguistic viewpoint is a
baffling pursuit. It looks plausible as a possible Indian or Spanish 
word, but trying to research it
from that angle would leave one at an absolute and puzzling dead end.

There are things far beyond imagination to be discovered through the 
hobby of DXing.

KCHJ-1060 (Delano) looks every bit my updated stereotype of a real XE. 
Three towers
on a semi-arid, desertine moonscape complete with gray concrete block 
masonry structure
and an abandoned skeleton of a station wagon car out front. Likely a 
place a camel would go
to expire

....Or was it six towers? I saw the winkin'-blinkin' tower lights five 
days a week at 0015
commuting back to Delano, Campeche.

"Delano" is an English surname. Ironically, the phonetic string means 
"from the anus" in
Spanish. A grotesque irony.  That's why the local Chicanos and Mexicans 
refer to it as an
English word "Dee-LAYNO-no" or simply "Dela."

No, boys and girls, a Chicano and a Mexican are NOT the same thing. 
Local Delano
Chicanos will let you know LOUD and CLEAR and at length that they are not.

I was jogging past one house in Delano when accosted by two Chihuahuas. 
Their
human companion, an ancient (and astonishingly delightful) Chicana came 
out and
calmed the two li'l pooches [mind you, we had never before seen each 
other ever on
Planet Earth] and with absolutely no provocation or pretext commenced to 
harangue
and denounce loudly her two adjoining Mexican neighbors. So they could 
hear if
they wished. "Sunny" (Sonya) Hernandez.
