[HCDX] Diggers On Air - Australian Military Radio in WWII

Diggers On Air now at www.radioheritage.net

The places are familiar to an older Australian generation - Jacquinot
Bay, Labuan, Morotai, Kure, Adelaide River and so many others - and
all these locations were the home of Australian Army Amenities
Service radio stations some 60 years ago.

The Radio Heritage Foundation salutes the memory of these stations,
and the men and women who served at them, and who listened to them
across the approaches to northern Australia towards the end of WWII.

'Diggers On Air' at www.radioheritage.net includes photos of some of
the staff, station facilities, rare ephemera and station data from
these short lived radio stations such as 9AD Morotai, RAAF Radio
'Voice of the Islands' and almost 50 others.

Racing results, football match commentaries, music from home and news
were amongst the popular programs broadcast from Papua, New Guinea,
the Dutch East Indies, Borneo, the Northern Territory, and Japan
itself.

Household names from the big commercial stations in Sydney,
Melbourne, Hobart and elsewhere joined fellow broadcasters from the
ABC to keep Australian forces entertained and informed from 1944-1946.

'Diggers on Air' sets the scene for a series of indepth stories about
the '9A' network stations and other AAAS broadcasters scheduled
on-line at the www.radioheritage.net web site shortly.

The Radio Heritage Foundation is a registered charitable trust
offering a range of free access programs and services about radio
heritage in the Pacific region.

Warm regards
