The latter might be the safest....  I suspect they will be a noise source
for antennas in the local area, but wouldn't expect them to interfere as far
and as wide as BPL.  But if it's in your house or the neighbours......
Those remote over the ac line telephone outlets that were around a few years
ago were known to be a problem near 80 or 90m I think.  Heck even X-10 or
wireless intercoms cause lots of longwave noise, so they're even banned from
around my location.

And since you mentioned BPL, a local (Alberta wide) newsletter for members
of the REA (Rural Electrification Association) indicated that, pretty soon,
BPL would be here, coming to an electrical outlet near you.  Oh joy.
