For what it's worth, the three closest stations to Carbondale Illinois on 1600 are:

KATZ St. Louis, Missouri 77.3 miles
WAIA Beaver Dam, Kentucky 128.5 miles
WBTO Linton, Indiana 143.7 miles

I got this information by doing the following:

Go to http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?page=Y ;, type in Carbondale IL as the location up at the top, then click "Go" (next to the State text field); THEN (here is the key) scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, click "find stations within", type 150 (or however many miles you would like to search outward from that city) then the frequency, then click  the "locate" button.

Not the most intuitive interface, but it works. Not that this information really helps much in this case, but it may help you or someone, sometime.

The nearest 1600 to Carbondale/marion is 1600 in St Louis, but it's gospel...

Were you hearing talk about Saluki (Southern ILL. Univ Carbondale) sports?
