Re: [IRCA] TAs Tonight

Hi Chuck - you nailed it. Iran it is. The chimes fit the VIRI IS on Interval Signals on Line, not quite the same tone, but definitely the same notes. On 702 I only hear two tones, but it's a dead-on match with the same tones on 711 where there are three tones. The third tone seems to have dropped out on 702. I suspect that I will hear these chimes many times as I work my way up the dial on this recording. The Iranian TOH at xx:30 is one major reason why we record at the bottom of the hour. Maybe hearing what I want to hear but maybe that ID is "Govorit Iran" or "Tehran". Thanks! Jim

Hi Jim -

I can't say I have ever heard "Govorit" IDs from Mayak. I'd be tempted to think this was Iran ending their broadcast in Georgian, assuming that "Govorit" is used in Georgian just like Russian.

Ahwaz-711 carries VOIRI at times per the WRTH just like 702 so maybe the chimes are Iranian although I hear 3 note chimes rather than 2 note.

Barry,

I'm working my way through a lifetime of Perseus recordings from November.
If you have something distinct at 0300 I can check some of my 702
recordings.

I happened to be reviewing a recording on 702 when your message arrived.
Unusual two chimes at 1930z, with "Govorit (Mayak?)". Armenia, if that
Mayak is heard correctly. But now I have the same chimes, weaker, on 711.
No idea who that is!
