[IRCA] TP report from the Queen Charlottes for 14Oct08....China especially!

TP report from Masset, Queen Charlotte Is., BC for 14Oct08

Monitored between 12:50 and 17:00 (yes, 17:00…..that’s 10:00 AM local). Still stations audible, but time to get on with the day. Last night’s TA conditions were poor with only 189 heard at more than barely there category. Otherwise, the hets were confined mostly to the bottom of the band, with snippets of audio on 666 and 684 kHz. A few stronger hets as well on 531, 612, 702, 711, 756 and 999. I was up late enough to start hearing the TPs fading in around 07:00 and primarily from Japan.

As for this morning, things started fairly slowly, but rapidly improved to very good conditions after 14:00 with most channels having several strong stations cochannel. Wish I had my Perseus with me!

Low Wave Russians heard: 153, 180, 189, 234, and 279.
531: NHK1 at 9 level, but DU audible on my ALA 100 too.

693: NHK2 at 9+ level at 15:45
702: NHK2 at 14:55 at 9 level
711: KBS1 plus jammer heard very loud at 14:56. Haven’t noticed the S. Korean jammer before.
720: VOR JJ at 13:21
729: Sounds like Vietnam at 15:45
738: Nice HLKG ID at 15:00, but dominated by Chinese station. Still there at 16:45.

1205.95: Yanbian in KK very strong.
1278: English newscast from probably Heibei at 14:27.
1287: Hokkaido very strong. For some reason, I’m also hearing them on 1260, 1269, and 1279….not sure why as they’re not listed here. My equipment is top end, so I don’t’ see this as some receiver mixing product. Any explanations?

That’s it for a fair initial Asian morning, and then going out with a very good enhancement. One more morning, and then I’m back in Victoria. Here’s hoping for some TA activity tonight. ….Walt Salmaniw, Masset, BC (saw a big black bear rambling across my BOGs today…..stopped, looked at it, then carefully stepped over them….I have pictures to prove it!).
