Here also, the concept of an erstwhile regulatory body, charged with
protecting the public interest, has been allowed to be hijacked by
members of the very industry it is supposed to regulate is hardly
limited to broadcasting. It can be found in varying degrees and details
in many other areas, whether we're talking about the FAA, FCC, FDA,
OSHA, etc., etc.

That said however, absent a law change I suppose there is still hope
that some future swing may move things in a different direction.
Trouble is that so many people are simply disgusted with government
anymore that it's hard to imagine that occurring anytime soon...
