Re: [IRCA] KOHI 1600

To Bill in Victoria, BC (and others),

As Patrick has mentioned, KOHI's 12-watt night time signal is unlikely
to be heard by anybody outside the local transmitting area (around the
Columbia River). With the combination of a poor transmitting site and severe QRM
on 1600 (KVRI and KOPT), nighttime reception of KOHI would seem unlikely at
best, even for DXers in the Puget Sound area.

The only luck I have had with this extremely weak signal is to try for
it around local sunset, when the combination of enhanced conditions and their
daytime power give you a slight chance. Look for the "Accent Radio Network"
talk format, not the "Air America" talk format of the stronger KOPT. As if
this were not enough of a challenge, both of these stations are usually under
the KVRI signal. Unfortunately, KOHI seems to rarely ID during its talk
format, so the only likely way to positively ID them is to compare the
transmitted signal with their web site audio, which is delayed about 3 minutes.
Sound like enough of a challenge? (hi) Good luck!

                                                   73, Gary
