I knew I forgot to do something tonight...
   
  KDON/1460 came on the air in 1947
  Changed calls to KNWZ in 1984
  Changed calls to KLCZ in 1985-1986
  Back to KDON in 1986
  Changed calls to KZXR in 1987-1989
  Changed calls to KRQC in 1990
  Changed calls to KHTX on 12/28/1991
  Back to KRQC on 1/10/1992
  Back to KHTX on 1/3/1995
  Back to KDON on 5/1/1997
  To KTXX on 10/12/1998
  To KION on 8/14/2002
  To KABL on 10/19/2004
  Back to KION in the past few days
   
  The KHTX-KRQC-KHTX switch may or may not have actually taken place.  Call changes were approved, but that 13-day period is either a hit & run or a marketing guffaw.  Without talking to them, I don't really know.

Yes KABL moved to Salinas several years ago and the local (Oakland) outlet on 960 became KQKE (The Quake) and has a progressive talk format.

Breakdown on 1460 in Salinas (as I have it logged)

KDON 11/15/57----was off the air for about 10-15 years until:
KTXX 9/ 9/00
KION 8/24/02
KABL 10/31/04
and now apparently back to KION altho I've not seen anything official on the call change as yet.

I probably missed a call or two in there somehow....
