Re: [IRCA] QSL COMMENT

Konnie,

"Times" have indeed changed. I can tell you flat out, that offering to
handle the
workload of verifying reports and sending out QSL's have resulted in tests
that otherwise would not have taken place.

In the "good ole days" of DXing, CE's might have commanded a staff of
several technicians assigned to maintain just one radio station. Today,
many CE's are responsible for the maintenance of several radio
stations, often with no support at all.

Answering "QSL requests" from hobbyists is understandably low on their
priority list. In the past, most CE's were hams---today, some are, but
many are not. So the hobby aspect of radio is more foreign to them.

As I've stated in the past, I personally review every reception report. In
the
past two weeks, I've rejected five reports. At least two of those were, I
believe,
completely false reports that should have never been submitted. So I think
that my signature is at least as valid as any CE's. Many of whom will simply
sign the report or drop a card/letter in the mail without actually reviewing
the recording at all.

Frankly, I'm tired of all the bitching and belly aching. Silly me, I like to
listen
to distant radio stations. If they QSL, great! If not, that's fine too. I've
got
a recording and I know that I heard them---no need to prove it in a court of
law. Who would care anyway?

Anytime that someone thinks that they can do the job of BTC better, please
offer your name to volunteer. I'll be happy to go back to just listening for
the
tests that someone else arranged.

Otherwise, do something constructive, like arrange for a test in your local
area.
Offer to handle the QSL's too. Maybe after you've done one or two, you'll be
less critical of how other people handle them.

This season we've been blessed with beautiful QSL card designed by Joe
Miller. Any DX'er should be proud to receive one. And to my knowledge, all
reports have been answered quickly and fairly.

So why are folks still complaining?

73,

Les Rayburn, N1LF
NRC/IRCA Broadcast Test Coordinator
Please call anytime 24/7 if your transmitter
will be off the air for maintenance.
