Pat, that is so amazing---thanks for sharing. I do remember KGFJ well, they always referred to themselves as Keeping Golden Favorites Jammin, and sometimes The Graveyard Groove. Somewhere in storage I know I have a few of their survey charts from the good old days. That was the only station I have ever heard play the extended album side version of Papas Got A Brand New Bag by James Brown over the air. For a while in the late 70s they became The Cat (KKTT) but reverted back to KGFJ. It is a testament to the greatness of a station that people remember it after so many years and there are tribute sites and broadcasts. Ditto the old KHJ....I think the KGFJ calls are on an FM station in Montana these days....I was on the 10 freeway in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago and noted that the hammock style longwire is still atop that building alongside the freeway, although they (KYPA currently) now broadcast from the KBLA site. Ditto KHJ who lost their nice towers a couple years back. Love me some L.A. radio! ms

As some of you know, some years ago I purchased a Roku where I watch TV from around the World. Also there are a lot of apps for radio. Today Roku added a real jewel, Classic KGFJ, with original music, jingles, jives, and ads. I have been listening to the app for a while. I wish there was DJ patter, but still pretty cool to listen to from the 1960s."The Big K over LA". A station that was rare to hear in the NW, but along with KHJ, KGBS, KDAY, KFWB, and KGFJ.
