[IRCA] Domestic MWDX to Enid OK, November 14-19, 2015

--- Begin Message ---
All times and dates strictly UT [5 hours ahead of `ELT` during EST; when changing times one must also change the dates for events in the 00-05 UT period to the previous date by ELT].

Rx: mostly DX-398 or PL-880 with internal antenna only; NRD-545 with ALA-330S inside or N-S random wire; Nissan stock caradio as specified; FRG-7 or ICR-75 with E/W longwire as specified

These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also VHF/UHF, sometimes, utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without much delay, such as
http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting August 2011 are archived in this forum with open access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page41

These logs are in four sections, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of USA,Âunidentified [if any], separated by ======= Within each, they are in frequency order

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Nov 18 at 0733 UT, WKY OKC is OFF! See USA for logs in its absence; hard to get past WKY otherwise even when nulling. Next check 1703 UT, WKY is on in Spanish, but weaker than usual, *much* less signal than its neighbors which it normally exceeds, 890 KTLR and 1000 KTOK (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WORLD OF RADIO 1800, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Nov 19, various checks between 0525 UT and 0705 UT fail to detect any signal from WKY OKC. Did their tower fall down, or what? No new news about it at radio-insight.com nor any outage mentioned at own http://www.laindomable.com/ Perhaps close-in, no one notices. This allowed me to DX several other 930s which normal big night signal from WKY blox, filed under U S A and UNIDENTIFIED.

Before our sunrise at 1313 UT Nov 19, at 1250 UT, I`m checking 930 again, and at 1251 UT do detect an ``Indomable`` ID, but it is *very* weak â surely less than 100 watts, and/or maybe a longwire substitute? Also ID at 1320 UT but still unable to overcome skywave CCI; at 1315 UT there was C&W music from NW, probably Colorado. I had also detected WKY at midday yesterday, so maybe it was still on 24 hours tho not recoverable at night. However, next check Nov 19 at 1917 UT, WKY 930 is back to normal, stronger than 890 KTLR and 1000 KTOK, so my fun is probably over. See also UNIDENTIFIED 930, another Spanish station (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1120, Nov 14 at 1951 UT, for the record, yes, KETU/KEOR Sperry/Catoosa/Tulsa is still going, nothing but regional Mexican music tocadiscos (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, Nov 16 at 0351 UT, nothing but hum from east/west, obviously KGYN Guymon; wiggle that patchcord! Still same at 0418 UT check, while on the N/S antenna something musical presumably RGV (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1380, Nov 14 at 0132 UT, Spanish talk mentioning California, but then ad for filetes costing 8.99 at Las AmÃricas, also mention Garnett, one of Tulsa`s arteries, so I`m confident this is KMUS Sperry, hijacked from MUSkogee, really Tulsa now, Radio Las AmÃricas, the radio station named for a supermarket, outreach from Arkansas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1560, Nov 14 at 1936 UT, in a daytime MW down-bandscan, find no signal from KEBC Del City, 1000 watts, which is normally audible here. Checked both on the NRD-545 and caradio parked. Was NBC Sports, which means I pay no attention to it anyway, and can`t recall whether it was on or not when I was within OKC a bi-day ago. NRC AM Log gives slogan as ``The Franchise 2``, which I`ve never heard either. For comparison, the next 1 kW station down the dial, 1490 KMFS Guthrie is audible as usual, altho it is closer; and 1520 KOKC sounds like less than 12.5 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1560, Nov 17 at 2006 UT check on caradio, KEBC Del City is back on with sportstalk (was absent Nov 14 at 1946 UT) (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Re 1640, KZLS: 11520, Nov 16 at 1936 UT on the G8 by a restaurant`s east-facing window, what`s this? Sounds like that harsh fellow Alex Jones mixing with something weaker. Never heard on this frequency via bigger receivers, but same as on 12160 WWCR; with one radio I can`t tell if they match exactly. So it`s probably a mixing product: yes, the other WWCR frequency, super-strong 9980, plus local 1640 KZLS The Eagle, which does have Alex Jones on at 17-20 UT = 11520, so external mixing around here, or the G8 internally overloaded. KZLS doesn`t usually get involved with SW stations (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

===================

** U S A. 750, Nov 19 at 1258 UT, ``UnivisiÃn AmÃrica 750 AM, una estaciÃn euforia[?]``, i.e. KAMA El Paso TX. Also in nightmiddle sometimes QRMs WSB when it should not, but situation not as bad as it was earlier this year (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 770, Nov 19 at 1352 UT now on 50 kW ND day pattern, KKOB says it`s 32 degrees in Albuquerque and plugs ``talk partner 1050 KTBL`` which is a mere 1/1 kW, sufficient for overflow (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 780-USB plus carrier, Nov 19 at 0712 UT, ``780 AM, Fountain, Colorado, home of the legends``, and yes, nothing on the LSB but WBBM; so why don`t they ID as ``780 USB ---``? NRC AM Log shows address of KCEG is in Denver, while Fountain is beyond Colorado Springs.

Replying to my earlier query about other SSB stations is Dave Valko: ``Doing another review and found that 880 WPIP [1800 W D1, Winston-Salem NC] is AM with LSB ONLY (no USB component), just like 870 WPWT [10000 W D1, Colonial Heights TN]. Interesting`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 870, Nov 19 at 1323 UT, ``UnivisiÃn AmÃrica 870 AM, una estaciÃn euforia[?]``, same slogan as heard earlier on 750 KAMA. Some other word than euforia, but what? Maybe not: Random House Spanish Dixionary translation is not ``euphoria`` but: ``resistance to disease; buoyancy; well-being``, certainly positive attributes, and a bit more specific than ``mÃs buena``!

Anyhow, the only 870 Ua station is: KLSQ Whitney (Las Vegas) NV, 5000/430 watts U2. Night pattern goes northwest only, so surely on day pattern and probably power, well before sunrise which in Nov is officially 1415 UT (Dec & Jan: 1445 UT). I was checking whether XETAR Chihuahua would still be audible this late, as during standard time it doesn`t open until 1300 UT (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 930, Nov 18 at 0733 UT, WKY OKC is OFF! Hard to get past it otherwise even with nulling. Now I am hearing classic rock/oldies from ENE/WSW, fast SAH with algo. 0734 UT DJ with celebrity bit, about Conan O`Brien and Northwestern (University?), and a singing ID, maybe some C`s in it, but just can`t make it out. Modulation is slightly distorted. A couple of PSAs like that too. 0736 UT, `Heartache`` by Bonnie Tyler. Best bet by format, DF and proximity is KCCC Carlsbad NM, as long as they are closer to day power of 1000 watts than night of 60.

930, Nov 18 at 0737 UT classic rock station above is losing out to a country station looping ESE/WNW, or at least clockwise from its predecessor. Hoping one or the other will be clear for a next ID, but by 0746 UT too much mix and I can`t stay awake any longer. In NRC AM Log there are quite few C&W stations on 930, with two possibilities: KAFF Flagstaff AZ, 5000/31 watts; and KRKY Granby CO, 4500/121 watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 930, Nov 19 at 0525 UT, `Jim Bohannon` live feed // 690 KGGF, best on N/S antenna, in the (almost?) absence of WKY OKC. In fact I`m getting a reverb, so two JimBo stations. This single page
http://www.jimbotalk.net/station-finder/
now displays all affiliates at once, facilitating searching by frequency rather than having to click on each state. Besides too-far outlets in MD and OH, we find these on 930, with local times here converted to UT:

WTAD Quincy IL 04-07 UT
WKCT Bowling Green KY 03-06 UT
KSDN Aberdeen SD 03-06 UT
KROE Sheridan WY 04-06 UT

Very likely I am getting WTAD and KSDN, also logged on 930 before and soon KSDN again for sure (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 930, Nov 19 at 0705 UT, break after some network news with ad for Aberdeen Civic Arena, weather, and ``Newstalk 930, KSDN, Aberdeen`` South Dakota. This would also be one of the stations with Bohannon over an hour ago. If WKY OKC were on at normal power, I would not be able to hear this from the opposite direxion. Once again I suspect another station is out of whack: KSDN 1 kW night pattern is supposed to throw northeast, and we are south. 5 kW day pattern has major lobe NW, minor lobe SE (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 930, Nov 19 at 0526 UT, classic rock roughly east-west, vs JimBo on the N/S antenna. 0557 UT a John Denver song; 0600 UT ID for WGAD Rainbow City, and 103.9 FM W2####. That`s on the newly acquired ICR-75 with ALA-330 antenna. This is facilitated by the lack of any audible signal from WKY OKC, but which may be on but at very puny power; see OKLAHOMA.

An hour later I`ve switched to the DX-398 with internal ferrite only: 0658 UT Nov 19, country song runs over 0700 UT; finally 0702 UT, clear ID for ``WGAD, Rainbow City-Gadsden and W280ER, 103.9`` and jingle as ``The greatest hits of all time, WGAD``, then disco tune. Imagine that: top billing to the AM, not FM translator. FCC shows W280ER is licensed to Anniston, but with a CP for Gadsden --- another one of those move-in deals for AMs desperate to get on FM. Before and after, the translator is separately owned/licenceed.

Per NRC Pattern Book, 500-watt night pattern is supposed to go south with essentially no signal to the west! 5 kW day is non-direxional.

NRC AM Log doesn`t mention Gadsden AL, just CoL Rainbow City, with address in Oxford, format AC. Station obviously identifies with larger city Gadsden of which Rainbow City is a suburb, on I-59 in northeast AL, while Oxford is quite some distance to the south on I-20, near Anniston. WGAD is probably also one of my unIDs from yesterday, rather than KCCC NM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1080, Nov 16 at 0354 UT, heavy CCI to KRLD Dallas mentions ``105`` so no doubt it`s again the cheatin` 10 kW ``daytimer``, KSLL Price UT which has a 104.9 translator as previously discussed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1100, Nov 16 at 0352 UT, ``In defense of liberty, NewsRadio 1100, KNZZ`` Grand Junxion CO, somewhat atop WTAM Cleveland, roughly equal on average, so again/still on 50 kW day pattern. Their idea of defending liberty is propagating nothing but one far-right-extremist wacko talkhost after another: on weekdays, Bennett, Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Savage and the Redeyes. More variety on weekends, including Armed American Radio (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1510, Nov 14 at 0200 UT, as I have just copied a full ID from XEQI, see MEXICO, mixing in is one for ``Hometown Radio, 1510 and 98.3, KMSD``, so again the Milbank, South Dakota station. 98.3 is K252FB, 250 watts also in Milbank, per WTFDA Database. 1510 is supposed to be 14 watts at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1800, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1560, Nov 14 at 0201 UT, promo asking for listener response to Wilkins Communications Network, into gospel huxter. NRC AM Log shows WRN on 1560 is KLNG, 10 kW daytimer in Council Bluffs IA; but, but, it`s long after sunset (Glenn Hauser, oK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1580, Nov 19 at 1347 UT, nulling KOKB OK, I get something from the NW/SE, mentioning ``northeast Colorado/southwest Nebraska``, so that`s KAMI Cozad NE, 1 kW ND; making 3.5 Hz SAH (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

================

UNIDENTIFIED. 930, Nov 19 at 1252 UT, just after confirming that WKY OKC is on the air but at severely reduced power, I`m briefly hearing another weak SS station, counterclockwise from WKY, ``los Ãxitos de hoy, Quà Suave`` (or Ke Suabe?) â trouble is I`m not certain of the last word, and don`t find any listings for such a slogan or anything similar in western US or Mexico.

If Mexican, the only likely 930s this late are XESHT in Saltillo, Coahuila, but it`s supposed to be ``La Poderosa`` or ``La MÃs Buena``; or XEQS in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, which is ``RomÃntica``. Could it be KCCC Carlsbad NM in a recent flip? Well, there is a `Que Suave` in Carlsbad, but it`s a hair/nail salon. Searching on that slogan mainly hits on KSWV 810 Santa Fe. How about KAPR Douglas AZ, listed as SS? Could be, except it`s allegedly // KVOI 1030 which is NewsTalk in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
