Re: [IRCA] FCC Commish Talks the Talk of AM Revitalization (?)
In my book there are just too many radio stations and not enough ad money to support all of this. With 4,700 AM's, and over 6,600 FMs that are commercial. That is over 11,000 radio stations. Add in non commercial, that is up to 15,000. Years ago,we had a couple thousand AMs in the country and few FMs. There was enough for everyone. Add in TV, internet, etc. Not enough money or listeners. Most young people I know, under 30, do not even listen to the radio at all. They stream everything they want. With me, except for DXing, I generally listen to radio, but it is streaming. I really like having a wifi radio. I should have bought one in the beginning.

The proposed Order would adopt specific measures to address practical problems and interference-related issues that have long plagued AM stations across the country." Among the items in the proposed Order: giving "stations more flexibility in choosing site locations, complying with local zoning requirements, obtaining power increases, and incorporating energy-efficient technologies." Wheeler claims "these actions will help to ease some of the technical limitations that have hindered AM stations in serving their listeners." The NAB's Dennis Wharton p
