KIDD 630 has been a very rare visitor through the years with so much activity on 630 kHz. I first heard and QSL'd them back in Seward AK in 1966, Dave Allen PD signed the verie letter. The letterhead has a kid dressed as Captain Kidd. Then in 1982, I finally heard them from the Oregon Coast during a very heavy AU conditions knocking everything else on 630 early in the evening. Later on ZK1KC Cook Islands took over 630 kHz. But for a time, KIDD was alone on the frequency with Adult Standard, if I remember correctly. I mentioned to a DXer that I was going to send a report and his reply was "Good Luck", as they had a track record of rarely answering QSL requests through the years. But I got a reply on the first try. Not a verie letter, but Ray Kilman in the News Dept typed a reply on the back of the Astoria Bridge post card I included. He knew what a QSL was I guess, as he stated "This is to verify reception of KIDD Monterrey California on December 3, 1982. We appreciate your
report." He signed and typed his name. I am sorry to see them leave the air, being such an old station and they had those call letters for decades, from at least when I first heard them in the mid 60s. By the way in 1966 their phone number was "FRontier 2-8154, to give you an idea how long ago that was.

I read in the latest IRCA newsletter that KIDD will go silent at the end of
the year. They used to make it here before KFI turned on IBOC at night. Back
in 2009 I sent them a reception report without a response (follow ups too)
so I gave it a try again today with an email to the PD and Traffic Dir Kevin
Kahl. He was there back in 2009. I also asked for an update on what's going
on and I will forward that if he responds.
