This was one of the more interesting mornings of late, as long
as I ignore the bottom half of the band. Below 1000 khz, I noted just
the most anemic of carriers, and some of the regulars couldn't even
manage that. Scanning upwards though, I ran into a decent carrier on
1098, which I surmised could have been a spur, until I discovered that
nearly every split above that also had a carrier. In most cases that's
all there was, but I did note audio on a number of frequencies:
1188 - traces of talk by a woman at 1357
1278 - traces of woman speaking at 1358. Reasonably sure it was Japanese.
1314 - bits of pop music at 1359
1332 - man speaking at 1359, then few seconds of instrumental and woman
spoke.
1359 - faint traces of talk at 1358
1377 - CNR1, weak, with man in Chinese, then pips at the hour. Seemed
like there was another station in the background. First time noted in 2014.
1386 - NHK2, with talk by a man at 1358, music, then pips at 1400.
1404 - faint traces of talk at 1401.
1413 - JOIF, up to fair with woman in Japanese at 1359.
1431 - the barest of audio traces at 1401.
1566 - HLZ, peaking at good level in Chinese at 1400
1593 - CNR1, fair-good at 1359. Pips at 1400, with NHK pips noted
underneath.
1602 - NHK, just traces of man speaking at 1358, but NHK pips were quite
distinct at 1400.
An odd morning, as the lower band was so dead, and actually the
domestics, even above 100 khz, weren't up to their usual levels either.
