Hello All,
There was a major shift in the propagation this morning compared to yesterday, with Japanese signals dropping off somewhat, and the signals from the Asian mainland coming back. The Chinese stations that had been missing in action for the past 5 days returned to the middle and upper band with some energy, both on the Chinese domestic and CRI frequencies. 936-Anhui (presumed) had its best audio of the season, and 918, 927, 981, 1035 and 1377 all managed fair audio at times during the 1310-1410 session. 963-CRI had good strength with its Russian service at 1403, and 1017-CRI and 1044-CRI had good audio in and out around 1350 with their Korean and Japanese services (respectively). The low-band Chinese didn't seem to participate in the recovery, however, with 603-China and 639-CNR1 missing in action for the most part. 648-VOR was back in a vibrant way around 1330 with its Chinese service, and 657-Pyongyang managed a strong tirade at 1405.
Both Taiwan parallels (738-BEL2 and 1143-BEL3) were matched up with their usual call-in talk program at 1350, with good audio on 738 and fair audio on 1143. There was also a Mainland Chinese co-channel mixing with 738-BEL2 around 1352, but it never really came up enough for definite clues. The Korean big guns on 972, 1053, 1134 and 1566 had excellent signals in and out throughout the session, and were quite a bit stronger than the Japanese big guns this morning (594 was good at 1320, 747 was very good at 1335, 774 was good at 1332, and 828 was fair at 1317). The best TP signal of the morning was again from 972-HLCA, which had one of its its typical huge fade-ins around 1345. Overall the band seemed in a transition toward favoring Asian mainland signals, although since this location seems to favor that type of propagation anyway, such a trend may not have been noticed this morning in Victoria, Seattle or Kalama.
