[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-22

The Asian TP's this morning may have been slightly down from yesterday's session in strength and variety, but there were still some interesting signals. In this respect the situation here was a lot closer to Nick's version than Bruce's dreary report.
 
 
This month's overachiever 603-HLSA was the star of the morning here, managing once again to exceed its best-ever signals (and peg the PL-380 S/N display) with a huge Korean talk fade-in around 1328 (interestingly, at exactly the same time that Nick reported it with "not so reasonable audio," although I had nothing like Nick's 603 jammer showing up). The Japanese big guns (594, 747, 774 and 828) seemed to drop off in audio somewhat this morning, but the Korean big guns on 972 and 1053 were as vibrant as ever. Some interesting signals from China showed up on the middle band, with 1017-CRI reaching good audio with Chinese music during its Korean service at 1335, and 1035-CNR1 doing the same with Chinese male talk at 1338. 657-Pyongyang was irritatingly strong with its ancient music around 1340, and 648-VOR came out of the noise with fair Chinese speech (in CISL splatter) at 1343. The Chinese station that was received on 1143 yesterday (the primary topic of conversation) unfortu!
 nately remained at a carrier level here this morning, although 738-BEL2 had some moments of fairly good audio around 1320.  
 
 
The mystery of the morning was apparent Korean speech and a "Moon River" song broadcast on 1044 kHz at 1339, all alone with no apparent co-channel. The 10 kW KBS station on 1044 has been heard here before, but never without the CRI co-channel mixing in. With 711 kHz wiped out by 710-KIRO, there is no easy KBS1 parallel audible in the Seattle area. On the other hand, it seems unlikely that 1044-CRI would play "Moon River" in a foreign service broadcast to Japan (when it typically plays Chinese music). Finally, I also heard (and recorded) the same weird music practice on 972-HLCA that Nick reported at 1336  In summary, the morning was fairly interesting, but not quite up to yesterday's exciting level.
