Hello All,
<<< I imagine Gary had very good X Band reception this morning. Here,
hets
across the whole band and X Band produced audio on 1629--poor for
several minutes, man talking in foreign language, sounded Spanish to my
untrained ears but doubt it was that. 1314 utc. Carriers noted on 1629:
-61 Hz, -24 Hz, -4 Hz, +43 Hz. >>>
As I reported to Steve, nothing like that happened on the Cliff this
morning. The DU-DX at this week's "Rockwork 4" sheer ocean cliff site
has been seriously skewed toward New Zealand, for some bizarre reason.
The same thing happened at the Cape Perpetua ocean cliff site last
month, with 2.5 and 2 kW Kiwi stations on 765 and 828 kHz often pegging
the PL-380's S/N readout at 25. When the Cliff propagation really gets
torrid, the lower powered Kiwis run roughshod over "big gun" Aussies on
the same frequencies. 594-3WV rarely has been able to compete with the
low-powered NZ Rhema network this week, and 792 kHz has a daily battle
between 4RN's music and Radio Sport (which usually hasn't been very
Sporting, in the way it runs roughshod over the Aussie big gun). The
lack of Aussie X-band results fit into this general pattern, and is
probably the only weak point that I've noticed in this entire
DXpedition.
73, Gary DeBock (in Cannon Beach, OR, for one more wild morning)
