Re: [IRCA] TP's & DU's for Tuesday, August 21, 2012 / from Gabriola Island, BC this time

For a change, I listened from Gabriola Island, in Georgia Strait, a little ways
from Nanaimo, BC. For me its claim to fame was being able to hear R. Farda and
R. Iran last January using a Flag antenna (under good conditions admittedly),
but for today and tomorrow, it's just a Pocket Loop and an ICF-2010. The
location has about 5km of salt water to Vancouver Island at 240 degrees, blocked
somewhat by "Mt." Benson at 1km high at 20 km away, while 300 degrees adds on a
kilometer or two more of water with little blockage.

I did check what was going on back in Victoria using the DXFishbarrel
(http://www3.telus.net/public/shallpat/test/display.htm)and it really looked
like normal to below normal conditions there, likely a little Asiatic early, DU
later, and nothing much in the way of audio.

However, here it seemed just Asiatic. At 1300UT, normally a peak for DUs in
Victoria, HLAZ-1566, JOHR-1287, and the KK jammer-1053 were all delivering weak
audio, and that time seemed to be their peak. Not much on the lower band however.

Looking forward to Gary's results, which will likely be nothing like the above, hi.

best wishes,

Nick
