I just took it that they were OK 10kW full time with such vast
areas of Canadian dead AM space! Certainly a regular on this
side of the pond.

Nope. Always had 1 kw at night. They were alone all day in Port
Huron, but I almost never heard them at night...

They are northeast of Port Huron, MI, and their day pattern aims east away from there. The night pattern looks like it would put about the same signal to the southwest. There may simply be no 920 station with any daytime coverage near you so groundwave works. But at night, skywave over-rides it.

I did listen to them a number of times by nulling out the local here. Never noticed any signal drop around the time of sunset in that part of Ontario. Since their nightime null sort of aims this way and the daytime major lobe is in this direction, it should be obvious.
