Australian Heritage AM Radio
2HD Newcastle
Approaching 90 years service
____________________________
Radio 2HD had gained many friends in Newcastle and the Coal Fields
District within a short time of its re-opening in 1945 according to
the latest in the popular series of Long Lost Australian Radio Stars
hosted by the Radio Heritage Foundation at www.radioheritage.net.
The original radio station was established in 1925 and was very
popular in the local community through such events as the weekly
concerts held at the Newcastle City Hall and Saturday Night Boxing
from Newcastle Stadium.
The '2HD Kiddies Club' will bring memories flooding back for some
older readers who may still remember Twinkle, the personality who
built up the club as a great favorite with local children.
Other well known early personalities at 2HD included Stuart Dibley,
Michael O'Regan, Bobby Baeck, and George Hall.
This new release brings to over thirty the number of such features
currently included in the Long Lost Australian Radio Stars series at
www.radioheritage.net where an increasing amount of Australian radio
heritage can now be found.
If you have your own memories, memorabilia and more you'd like to
share about 2HD Newcastle or any of the other stations featured in the
series, the Radio Heritage Foundation wants to hear from you.
It may be some old photos, booklets, newspaper or magazine articles
or even some recordings. Memories of listening to 2HD over the years
are also important and wanted because they help people understand the
important community role played by 2HD over several generations.
Other now long silent radio stations in the Newcastle area included
in the Long Lost Australian Radio Stars series include 2HR Hunter
River and 2CK Cessnock 'The Voice of the Coalfields'.
The Radio Heritage Foundation is a registered non-profit organization
connecting popular culture nostalgia and radio heritage across the
Pacific and its website is www.radioheritage.net where full contact
details can be found. Email: info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
