[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-19

Hello All,

Finally facing the reality of eroding Asian propagation during the
west coast sunrise period, a decision was made to check out TP signal
strength during the Asian sunset period (0930-1100 UTC). Based on the TP-DXing
results of the past three seasons here, this early morning propagation path
was known to become superior for Asian reception around the middle of
November-- and it was time to check it out. This was also the propagation path
which provided the original three TP receptions on a humble analog SRF-59 back
in November of 2007, to kick off the Ultralight Radio movement.
As expected, Asian signals were far more vibrant during this early
morning session than during "sunrise enhancement," three hours later. The
"big gun" TP's on 594, 747, 828, 972, 1134 and 1566 really sounded healthy,
and some other Asians on 558, 657, 738 and 1053 were rising up to be heard.
Several "big gun" Asians had nice signals on the "barefoot" SWP Slider
model. Although nothing new or rare was received, indications were that overall
propagation was not at its best this morning, and that this path may yet
provide a few DXing surprises this season. To confirm the superiority of this
"night owl" TP propagation, a sunrise DXing session was also held this
morning, during which the anemic TP's seemed to stay in relative hibernation.
A few modest signals were heard from "big guns" like 594-JOAK and 828-JOBB
around 1500, but the difference in signal strength was striking. West coast
SDR users may wish to check out this Asian sunset propagation, which seems
almost good enough to compensate for the lack of sleep that live DXers
face.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 3' sided PVC tuned passive loop (bedside) for
the 0930-1100 period, and a 9' sided PVC loop for the 1500-1515 period (in
the back yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB
spotting receiver:

558 JOCR Kobe, Japan Fair-good with music at 0958; no sign
of HLQH (usually dominant around sunrise)
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good with Japanese NHK news 1000
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Poor-fair Korean speech at 1508
657 Pyongyang BS, N. Korea Equally fair signals (from ragged-
sounding transmitter) at both 1033 and 1511
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Fair-good Chinese speech around
          1047 (with apparent HLKG co-channel)
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Strongest of the Japanese during the
early session; apparent news at 1002
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Good Japanese in KTTH splatter 1018
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Stronger during early session, but
fair signal at 1501 with local "Kansai" (Osaka area) news
          during sunrise session

above noise level during early session at 1010
