Hello All,
Yesterday's mysterious Japanese-slanted propagation gave way to much
more normal Asian signals today, and with one notable exception the Chinese
"big guns" were back in force. 738-BEL2 and 936-Anhui had vibrant signals
as usual, and most of the low-band Asians from other countries (603, 648,
657 and 675) were back to normal strength. The Korean signals were
especially healthy today, with 594-JOAK again pestered by the Korean co-channel at
various times, and the Jammer on 1053 kHz holding down the frequency very
well. Whereas 1134 kHz was all JOQR yesterday, this morning it was all KBS,
which pretty much reflected the propagation change within 24 hours.
The exception to the vibrant Chinese signals was 639-CNR1, which
sounded unusually anemic this morning (after having been completely absent
yesterday, along with the other Chinese). The weakness of CNR1 combined with
the strength of the other Asians produced a first-time snarl on 639 kHz at
1403 for dominance of the frequency, during which an apparent Korean-sounding
co-channel (not // 594) temporarily was the stronger station. The monotone
male voice droned on and on without providing any ID clues, but this
Korean-sounding signal may be further evidence of the 50 kw KBS3 station on the
frequency (for which there was no parallel to check). Although this
morning's session lacked yesterday's bizarre propagation, after three days of
unusual solar activity, it was reassuring to have most of the Asian signals
back to decent levels.
The following were received on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting
receiver.
