Hello All,
This morning's Asian propagation seemed down somewhat in comparison
to previous days, and Dennis' high band boost was not noticed here. (There
is some evidence that the 9' box loop here performs best on the low band
frequencies, in comparison to single-loop directional antennas). There were
good low-band signals from regulars like 648-VOR and 657-Pyongyang and some
decent Chinese signals on 936 and 1035 kHz at times, but it wasn't exactly a
thrilling session. Trying to identify a weak co-channel that showed up
again under 639-CNR1 proved fruitless, with CNR1 itself in and out. 1053 and
1134 kHz seemed down in strength compared to their usual levels, and 1170
kHz didn't have the usual TP's (KBS or an UnID Chinese station) pestering
KPUG.
Perhaps the brightest sign was the very low band, where 558-HLQH made
its first appearance (// 603-HLSA) with its standard KBS2 Korean pop music
format. The Chinese CRI station on 1044 kHz was also vibrant with its
Japanese-language program, but other than that and some momentary Chinese
fade-ins on 918 and 927 kHz, it was a fairly modest TP-DXing morning here.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard). A modified ICF-2010 (with a 30" transplanted loopstick) was used as an
SSB spotting receiver:

603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea Fair-good Korean pop music at 1351;
trace of UnID Chinese co-channel underneath
639 CNR1 China Synchros Modest Chinese signal around 1406; an
apparent weak co-channel in and out on the frequency but way
too weak to check NHK1 //
