[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-24

Hello All,

It was an excellent low-band morning here for Asiatic TP's, with a
few stations like 657-Pyongyang and 738-Taiwan having their best signals of
the season so far. 729-China (presumed Jiangxi, according to a tip from
Chuck last year) made a rare appearance with good signals very close to
CHMJ-730 (a daytimer here), and 666-Radio Mayak was back holding down the
frequency over a weak JOBK. That was the general trend this morning here, with all
the low-band Asians except the Japanese getting a significant signal boost.

738-BEL2 in Taiwan is now having very serious transmitter issues,
with the worst buzzing hum ever heard from a TP (including the North Koreans).
What was previously a ragged carrier now sounds like an overmodulated
North Korean with a built-in Korean Jammer , as in this recording at 1338 this
morning: _http://www.mediafire.com/?8j32pn1ig689894_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?8j32pn1ig689894) . The thumping hum extends to 737 kHz when the
signal is strong, as in this 1339 recording:
_http://www.mediafire.com/?y2lga5wsqbtjczb_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?y2lga5wsqbtjczb) . This station was
having similar transmitter issues this time a year ago, but appeared to have
corrected them last October.
729-China was only heard once here previously (last October) and this
morning it was all alone on the frequency, with no sign of JOCK or the NK
station. It was another indication that the new season is full of
surprises, and a good sign that October may be equally exciting. Congratulations
again to Stephen (in the Ultralightdx group) for receiving his first TP's
(774-JOUB and 657-Pyongyang)) on his PL-380 and SAT, near San Diego.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard):

558 JOCR Kobe, Japan Poor-fair Japanese talk around 1314
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair-good Japanese conversational program at 1316
603 TP-Mix Korean pop music (HLSA) mixing with UnID CC at fair level,
1319
639 CNR1 (China Synchros) Good Chinese talk and music at 1335
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Strong signals with Russian music during the
          Mandarin Chinese external program, 1331
657 Pyongyang BS, North Korea Strong overmodulated signals at 1323 with
          typical YL monolog _http://www.mediafire.com/?8fly27njdrsu8cf_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?8fly27njdrsu8cf)

          a very weak JOBK, 1338

684 China (presumed) Threshold audio again on this frequency around 1350
702 UnID Buzzing carrier at 1337 (almost certainly NK), but KIRO too
strong
729 China (presumed Jiangxi) Fair Chinese YL speech in CHMJ slop; only
          second time ever heard here

severe issues (see description and MP3's in the narrative above)
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Fair signals in KXL splatter for most of morning
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Fair signals in KTTH splatter for most of morning
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan NHK2 program fair-good at 1307, best of Japanese

1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Fair-poor Japanese religious program at 1310
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Poor threshold audio around 1306

73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock
