[IRCA] TP for 6 Jan from Victoria, BC

Much better conditions this morning; great shame I had to go to work. Started
listening at 1415, and ran for about 45 minutes before dragging myself away for
preparing for the day. Another quick listen 45 minutes later verified that the
interim period would have been worth sticking around for.

This wasn't October conditions, as most signals heard were in the barely there
category, but there were quite a lot of those compared with recent weeks. As
usual, fade ups were erratic, but the NHK2 big guns were quite consistent, which
has also been unusual recently. Again, they had a 1500UT s/off.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

774 JOUB
828 JOBB
1575 VoA at 1437

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

279 R. Rossii
639 CNR-1 //5030
747 JOIB
918 echoey CC talk at 1547UT
972 HLCA at 1425UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

594 JOAK
612 JOLK //594 at 1546UT
648 likely V of Russia, but no SW //s heard
666 JOBK //594
873 JOGB //828
1017 CRI w/KK talk //5965
1134 not //5030; 972 wasn't really up when this one was, but similar mx?
1287 likely JOHR
1377 CNR-1 //5030 at 1446

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

153 and 189 R. Rossii //279
558
567 JOIK //594
603
621 off channel, and possibly //3320; if so, N. Korea
711 man in KK??
738
936 Anhui?
945 unID, not //5030 or 594
1008
1044 CRI?
1188 didn't seem //594
1305 KK inflected talk? no // available
1476 mystery; seemed to be woman talking with an echo, maybe another station as
well?
1566 giant carrier, bit of CC sounding talk

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

657 off channel (N. Korea?), 846, 1053

best wishes,

Nick
