[IRCA] TP for 13 Nov from Victoria, BC

Listened again for about an hour from 1405 UT, today, and although there were lots of signals, there was lots of domestic splatter as well, so DXing wasn't particularly productive. Any sunrise enhancement seemed mostly due to a minor drop off in that splatter, followed by fairly quick decay in signals past 1500UT. A quick visit back to the radio yielded a nice call ID and s/off chimes from JOUB-774, but there wasn't much else by then. At the same time, my impression was that some DX was lurking there between 1400 and 1500UT, with several expected CNR-1 channels not giving CNR-1 audio, just at quite a poor level.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

279 R. Rossii
558 HLQH //603 at 1437UT
594 JOAK
774 JOUB
828 JOBB
972 HLCA

(except for 279, these were all pretty variable)

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker,
though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK was suffering badly from someone else's mx at 1446UT
603 HLSA; others there from time to time; didn't get Kevin's NHK1 which was more common a couple of seasons ago
621 China at 1439UT, with hum
639 CNR1 //5030
657 hum and N. Korea
675 likely Vietnam
738 music not //1143
747 JOIB
945 CNR-1 //5030
1134 KBS //972
1575 VoA

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker

153 and 189 //279 R. Rossii
567 JOIK possible at 1418UT alone on channel except for channel, but not //594; after 1420, it was.
576 Mayak at 1440UT
702 North Korea at hum at 1416
711 likely HLKA?
1143 Taiwan? not able to //738 though
1503 JOUK //594

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

531 JOQG //567
549 Mayak? likely //576 with similar sounding man, but couldn't get both at the same time
585 JOPG likely //594
648
666, lots of carrier, in fact, at 1501, that's all it was, quite strong, as if audio had stopped (like a s/off)
756 not //5030
819 hum, not audio not N. Korea?
837 seemed CC
846 seemed //594 so NHK1 synchros
864 lots of carrier, couple of audios?
918
936
954
981 sounded CC but not //5030
1089 could have been CC, first noted 1509
1242 JOLF cuckoo clock pips at 1500UT
1287 JJ inflected talk JOHR
1323 CRI?
1377 lots of carrier, talk there which wasn't //5030 or 774
1422 might have been JJ?
1566
1593, not //5030 or 774 at 1506UT, but at 1508 was //5030 (brief local program?)

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

lots of them, though some had touches of audio, noted above; ones noted: 783, 855 w/hum, 999 w/hum, 1008, 1053, 1098, 1251, 1467

best wishes,

Nick
