[IRCA] PL-380 DSP Selectivity Under Severe Domestic Splatter... 648-Voice of Russia

Hello All,

Uploaded this morning was an MP3 of the new Tecsun PL-380's DSP filtering
performance in the reception of a fairly strong TP station (738-Taiwan),
with only minimal splatter from 740-KCBS. Unfortunately, TP-DXing is rarely so
 ideal.

The link below is for a recording of the PL-380's DSP performance in a much
more challenging test: the reception of 648-Voice of Russia, in the face
of severe splatter from 650-KSTE in Sacramento, California (at 1453 UTC this
morning, here in Puyallup, WA). The recording begins with a strong signal
from 648-VOR, on the PL-380's 1 kHz DSP selectivity setting. The filtering
is then changed to the 6 kHz setting (losing VOR completely), the 4 kHz
setting (bringing in a trace of VOR), the 3 kHz setting, the 2 kHz setting,
and finally the 1 kHz setting, restoring VOR's original signal.

Finally, as the ultimate benefit, during the last 7 seconds the PL-380's
frequency is changed to 647 kHz, moving farther away from the splatter. This
last step (which is counterproductive on the PL-310, and other DSP
Ultralights with the "soft mute" function) provides a great benefit on the
"soft-mute free" PL-380.

As with the previous MP3, this recording was made with the assistance of an
experimental 9' sided PVC box loop, set up in the back yard. Hopefully the
MP3 will be of assistance to those considering a purchase of the PL-380.
