[IRCA] TP for 4 Nov from Victoria, BC
Not an astonishing morning by any stretch, but lots of small signals that could provide payback with some digging....a new one here was (were?) the NHK1 synchros on 963, briefly on top with the quiet musical interlude that seems to be played regularly at 1420UT. Listened from 1410 to after 1500UT, and there seemed to be a small enhancement around 1450, though that may have been mostly the effect of domestic splatterers fading down. Generally, signals would peak rapidly to levels noted below, then disappear rapidly also (so results look better than they actually were, being based on spending roughly an hour overall at the radio, rather than a lightning overview).
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):
279 R. Rossii at 1451, definite enhancement here; was very poor earlier
594 JOAK
774 JOUB
828 JOBB at 1423 and later, not before
972 HLCA finally by 1440UT
reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker,
though often battling w/splash or noise):
576 Mayak w/RR talk at 1437
603 HLSA //558 at similar level w/pop mx, though both channels had other signals mixing in
639 CNR-1 //5030 at 1417
675 seemed VV at 1429UT, not earlier
747 JOIB at 1435UT
873 JOGB //774, but N. Korea turned up later
936 CC talk, likely Anhui at 1436UT, strong carrier
945 CNR-1 //5030
1017 CRI briefly at this level //5965
1575 VoA assumed
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker
594 unID mx o/JOAK-594 at 1538
612 JOLK //594 at 1443
621 hum and CC at 1442
666 JOBK //594 at 1431UT, but sounded like RR talk earlier
738 two signals at 1446
792 vocal mx at 1451UT; seemed Asian; China?
918 two stations at times
963 NHK1 synchros //594 at 1421UT; CRI didn't seem to get to this level this morning
981 CNR-1 //5030
1206 Yanbian likely, KK talk, rough audio
1287 JOHR at 1508 , JJ talk
1593 CNR-1 //5030 at 1515 and 1521UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :
(fair amount of weak upper band activity particularly later)
531 likely JOQG, seemed //594
702 NHK2 //774 and hum
756 not //5030
837 big carrier mostly
855 hum, but talk not //N. Korean SW
864, mostly a big carrier
954 later on
1008
1143
1215
1251
1377, always a big carrier
1386 maybe CC?
1413 at 1514 w/pop mx
1422 at 1505UT
1467 at 1522, likely KBS? (not //774, which would be great DX)
1503 seemed //594 at 1503, so JOUK
1557 deep voiced slow talking man at 1519UT, likely WYFR
Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
819 w/hum, 882, 1566
best wishes,
Nick
