[IRCA] TP for 28 Oct from Victoria, BC

Listened from 1350 for about an hour, and conditions continue "bitty", with very little in the way of consistent signal strength, and no really big signals either, just lots of hard work digging in the splatter. Upper band was incrementally a little better than the last two days, but still not good.

I didn't repeat Colin's logging of CC on 621, though it wasn't bad here about 15 minutes later, and has been a pretty consistent performer this season. The peak seems to around 1430-1440UT these mornings, but it's not too pronounced

Just as I write this at 1620UT, there's still some weak JJ talk on 594, and weaker talk on 954 and 1242. At 1600, actually snagged 945 //5030, as well as 1575, but the strengths were pretty poor.

pretty darn good audio (at least briefly):

279 R. Rossii earlier
594 JOAK , not steadily by any means
774 JOUB at 1401, rough earlier
828 JOBB at 1412, not before; another station struggling below

reasonable audio at times during the period (though often battling w/splash or noise):

153 R. Rossii earlier on
567 JOIK//594
576 Mayak; RR talk by man
603 two stations, neither really dominant whenever I tuned by
621 CC talk o/hum on channel at 1445
747 JOIB later on
873 N. Korea //2850 1408UT
936 presumably Anhui, but poorer before 1430
963 CRI in RR
972 HLCA
981 CNR-1 //5030
1053 Korean jammer
1566 HLAZ, always a big carrier, but got to this level of audio 1449UT
1575 VoA later on

not so reasonable audio, occasional words in splash or noise:

234 R. Rossii //279 at 1355; a rare visitor
558 seemed KK talk 1407 no 603 // at this time; JOCR under
639 CNR1 //5030 1446 w/ delay, then faded to something else w/slow murky talk
666 JOBK //594 at 1444UT
675 VV talk by man at 1433UT
738 CC talk by woman 1451UT
783 CC talk by man, not //6185
837 seemed like CC talk but not //5030
846 Tagalog talk by man?
945 CNR-1 //5030 w/usual delay at 1451UT; something else there, but not NHK1
1134 not //972; talk seemed more JJ, so JOQR
1161 mx
1323 CRI RR talk //963; rare visitor this season

Burbles in the splatter and noise:

189 R.Rossii
531 seemed //594 so NHK1
540 CNR1 choral mx //5030, under EE religion
549 seemed //576, so Russia
585 JOPG //594 at 1445UT, which wasn't much better at this time
693 JOAB //828; this is really suffering from CBU splatter this season
702 hum w/ what seemed a mix of N. Korea and Japan
792 seemed CC
801 mx
855 seeemed //3320 so N. Korea; little hum this morning
954 likely JOKR?
1017 likely CRI?
1116 mumbling, but Asiatic not DU
1188 good carrier, not much audio
1287
1512 at 1442UT, just mx

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):
(this category is large these days; there seems a lot of splatter, yet often good carriers)

1026, 1035 w/hum, 1098 (Asiatic direction), 1143, 1242, 1251, 1377, 1386, 1467, 1593

best wishes,

Nick
