[IRCA] Last night, I only had ears for EWE

Which was hooked to the Drake R8B and firing 130 degrees which is 90 degrees
off from a direct shot to Europe from my qth in Ga.

At sunset, 2300 Z I did a bandscan on 9 kHz splits and heard hets at

As usual, loudest of the bunch was from Duba followed by 1089, 531 and 999.
I recovered audio from Duba 1521, the clearest ever for me, a man speaking.
Spain at 585 was also very clear until about 2330, and Sport Talk 1089 came
in, but not as clear as the other two. The origin of 531 has me curious as
I haven't been able to hear a peep of audio from it despite a loud het. RVC
ends up gobbling up the het as time moves past sunset.

On LW, audio from 251, 234 and 207. Unfortunately, my linguistic
recognition skills are not much better than my 10 year-old Aussie's, and I
can't swear to the language.

My location is an old residential area with above ground electrical service
and about 13 miles from the Georgia coast as the seagull flies.

My indirect firing EWE trumped my longwire once again. None of the TA's
audio was heard on the longwire as I toggled back and forth from the ewe,
demonstrating that SN ratio is at times more important than gain. I did not
have my 18' Dallas Langford inspired Quiet Vertical online last
night. While ionospheric condx were gangbusters for me, near Earth activity
was somewhat noisy as I could hear the QRN crackle and pop of regional
lightning strikes.
