Laptop prices are VERY low right now, Patrick.  My wife and I bought one
for her to use upstairs (she is disabled), last year for about $500.  It
is a Sony with a 15.4" display, 160 Gb hard drive, DVD/CD burner and 1Gb
ram.  I have seen simialr laptops this year for $399 with 2x the HDD
space!  Netbooks may be nice for travelling and such but I need that
large keyboard.

PacificGeek.com has refurbished / off-lease desktops for about $100
though the installed memory and HDD sizes are anemic, they can be easily
upgraded.  Fry's has 1 TB internal HDD's for less than $100!  If I had
the financial ability, I would buy an off lease Dell GX-280 desktop
upgraded to a larger HDD and more ram for a Perseus setup.

Thank you all for your quick response. I have my full sized computers,
both Windows XP, but I was thinking on a decent laptop with a wifi to
travel with. If I go the way of the SDR receiver, I might as well have
the vehicle. I still like the idea of my big 19 inch widescreen desktop
computer for my main work. I would like to have a laptop with a CD/DVD
drive though,  as it would be handy. Chuck, I like your idea of a bit
bigger than the small ones. Costco had two of the small ones. I think
one was $249 and the other was around $300, but no CD/DVD drive. Even
Bob's old Toshiba Windows 95 laptop I have, has a CD drive! I would want
that. At one time, I wasn't interested in the computer radios, but now I
am thinking about them....time will tell, but I would like to have a
laptop.
