In case anyone wonders about the derivation of those definitions, it started from an Ernie Cooper abbreviation in his Musings Column in the National Radio Club's DX News. So many Spanish-speaking stations were being heard on the dial 50+ years ago, Ernie abbreviated the term "Spanish-speaking" as SS ... and the subsequent abreviations, in double letter form, arose for other languages. 

Hank Bennett of the old Newark News Radio Club came up with a different set of two-letter abbreviations for languages, such as EG for English, SP for Spanish, PT for Portuguese, RS for Russian, FR for French, et cetera ... Some hobby groups continue to use the SS-PP-EE form, others use the Bennett form ...

And this old Krumudgeon thinks that since there are, for all practical purposes, no finite space limitations on the Internet (as opposed to X number of pages and Y number of lines in printed bulletins), overabbreviating is no longer necessary. If one gets close to the generous limits for posts, one can always begin a new post ... and newcomers won't have to worry about the difference between SSB (Single Sideband) and SSB (Star-Spangled Banner.)
