Just got mine today, and I think I have a rare aligned one, in that I put
an 8" ferrite near the antenna coil to increase the inductance, and all it
did was degrade it, so mine might be just right out of the box.  I
compared it to an aligned WRX-911, and it is indeed the same up and down
the band.  I realized I could do this when I aligned the WRX-911 to help
find the sweet spot on the ferrite.

So, if you have a ferrite laying around, maybe bring it up close and see
if a low-band station gets better, in which case your coil might be too
far down the ferrite and needs to come more towards the middle?
