Re: [IRCA] TP for 26 Apr from Victoria, BC Note from Masset
Hi, fellas! Walt here reporting from a very windy and sunny Haida Gwaii or Queen Charlotte Islands in northern BC. I arrived on Friday for a 4 day visit while we construct our radio shack, err garage. I`m only using my mini N-S Beverage and a large diameter ALA 100 aimed 40deg and 220 degrees. Saturday am was not very exciting, especially early on. Towards dawn, things really picked up, as is the usual thing here with a strong JJ, KK, and Chinese opening. This morning I awoke a little later, around 11:45 UTC and noted conditions on the tropical bands to be down vs yesterday, but a pretty nice opening to China, but with the JJ not as good. The upper half of the band was the best. My frequency of interest this morning was on 1314 with Christian hymns heard under the Japanese station, but after 13:00 it became dominant. I first thought that it was the Invercargill station, as the hymns were all English, but the preacher was not a native English speaker, but with a Fili!
pino accent. I don`t know whether that station broadcasts Christian programming or not. This station was heard best on the ALA, and the reason I thought it might be a NZ station. I have lots of good 1600 kHz Perseus files to play with.
For NIck`s benefit, I had 1053 with pretty good audio yesterday and pretty much the identical spectrum view as was reported a few months back. It`ll be worth checking when I get home tomorrow. I`ll ask Guy whether he`d like a file or two to upload. Things died off pretty much by about 13:40. This was well after LSR. Got to go! ..........Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC
