[IRCA] August 27:Report from Masset
Yep ;-) !!! Couldn't resist Chuck! Below is my report for yesterday, 26August. Haida Rose's was closed so it's going out today:
TP Report from the Queen Charlottes for 26 August, 2008
An abbreviated report this morning as I slept in until just
before 7:00 am local. Thankfully, things were still very good, with
clear indications that Fall is approaching.
The TPs continue to hang in there longer than even last week.
First, a summary of last nights TA activity. Once again, many hets up and down the
band. A list of the hets follow, with
audio indicated. By far the best was
1215 at an 8.5 with Spanish programming all the way….no indication at all of
Virgin Radio. This must be COPE in Spain.
531, 684, 693, 783, 774, 819, 837, 855, 864, 873, 882, 918,
954 (a 7+), 963, 972, 981, 999 (a 6), 1008, 1017, 1026 (a 7), 1035
(7.5…Portugal), 1044, 1071, 1098, 1107 (a 6), 1125 (a 7), 1134, 1143, 1152,
1161, 1215 (8.5 COPE Spain), 1224, 1251, 1269 (a 6), 1287 (a 6), 1296, 1305,
1314, 1404, 1413, 1422, 1485, 1503, 1566 (3.5 at best), 1575, 1585, 1602. About half of the hets were 5s. Time was from 04:48
until past 05:14. By then the action had pretty much ceased.
Woke up by the call of nature at 09:50 UTC. Checked
1017 hoping for Tonga,
but only heard JOLB with NHK2 programming.
Otherwise only 1566 was a good levels, presumably HLAZ. Most other TP frequencies were not very good,
which proves the point that there’s little benefit from starting too early
here. The LW Russians were all there,
but not as strong as closer to dawn.
At dawn, I listened from 13:53
to 14:43 and noted an excellent
X-band opening.
1701.0 had EZL music and probable Christian programming,
while 1701.06 had talk, and not sounding like Hindi. Did note mention of Samoan on Tuesdays around
this time in the PAL.
1683.2 with Radio Club AM presumed.
1665.0 ?2MM
1656. Chinese at 13:57.
1647.05….only a “3”
1638 Arabic Radio Lebanon
1629
1611…oldies.
Below this were the usual JJ stations which kept on for
quite a long while, as did a number of CNR1 transmitters. Enjoyed the NHK2 stations with Italian
lessons after 14:00 (One of our
guests is Italian). 873 had North
Korea plus another.
1017 seemed Chinese.
Not CNR1. Wondered about Guangdong.
1287 which is often solidly JJ, also had some western music
cochannel.
1467 I was expecting
NHK2, but instead I believe it was KBS1.
1575 AFN and VOA
about equal.
Overall, the X-band opening was the best yet. I continue to be very pleased with the
Wellbrook Array providing in many cases better useable signals than the BOG and
Beverage (and the ALA 100 60’ loop, which is usually the poorest performer, but
still not bad at all). I do note more
noise on the Wellbrook than the Beverages, but still a very nice antenna to
use.
That’s it for now.
73s from a very wet Haida Gwaii, with strong SE winds and rain
today. Still, the cabin is back to peace
and quiet after the departure of our guests.
Now I can get back to “normal” dxing!
