Re: [IRCA] Wireless headphones - OK for DXing?

Hi,

I have used Sennheiser HDR-120 wireless headphones (european model for RS-120 I quess, uses 863-865 MHz FM) for a year now and I'am very satisfied. But I have to add the following: In every place where I have used them for Dxing I have used also coaxial cables from antennas to receiver. I need coax because I use laptop for recording NRD-535D and Yaesu FRG-100 signals as well as controlling Perseus. In peditions my antennas are beverages or BOG's and at home I have ALA-1530S active loop antenna.

Only issue is here: If you have very weak radio signal for a long time, the headphones loses the signal of the base and give you loud white noise until the signal level is up again. So you need another headphone set for listening to the weakest stations. Despite of this issue I can recommend wireless headphones to Dxers.

OT: Wireless headphones are very useful when you are just waiting for the FM conditions to get better. Then you can do something else when you are not tied to your radio. And you can let the headphones hang over your neck and put them on when something starts to happen.

Subject: [IRCA] Wireless headphones - OK for DXing?

Hi all:

I am contemplating getting a set of Sennheiser RS-120 wireless 900 Mhz headphones. Has anyone had any problems with heaphones like these generating interference when DXing, especially in the proximity of a ferrite antenna (portable rx, Quantum Loop, etc.)?

Thanks - Kevin S
