*** Having one's own domain introduces another level of conplexity
however. It requires either a combination of a degree of technical
competence not all of us possess and also more time to devote to the
domain and/or more dollars spent to pay a third party service to do it.

I've gone part way down that road probably half a dozen times and every
one led to my deciding that the combinations of time/effort/money/
knowledge didn't justify the benefit I'd derive. And I never did figure
out ( other than a short-lived attempt at going into consulting about 7
years ago when I was between jobs for too long ) what I'd do with my
own website...

But there's still something involved in getting it set up and dealing
with problems that they can't handle. Works well for many people, but
not for others...
