Ah, the exhilarating research on my misplaced 1660 TIS continues.
When we last left this saga, a TIS identifying itself as being in
Redmond on 1650 was being heard on 1660 from SeaTac Airport (from my
car) and home (ICF2010 etc.) Redmond to home is about 28 miles;
that's rather expansive coverage, I thought to myself, so I E-mailed
the City of Redmond PR Department. The following day I received a
call back from LT Ashmore who said the transmitter was tested from
three different locations in Redmond last month and that it was
picked up by someone from Tukwila. He also said that the transmitter
was made by Information Station Specialists in Zeeland, MI
(616/772-2300, www.theradiosource.com). I was in the midst of writing
an E-mail to them when I decided to tune in to see if it was still
on. It was, but it was now identifying itself correctly as coming
from the City of Tukwila. I could not dig out the call letters
because of a vicious relatively new buzz on the top end of the band.
So Tukwila is already on on 1660 and Redmond will go on in September
on 1650. Now you know. It is not nice trying to fool DXers with
incorrect ID and frequency announcements...
Speaking of the vicious new noise, we have three TV sets, two of
which were cable-ready and one of which wasn't so we had to get a box
from Comcast because without it, we would not be getting any cable
signals after June 1. I can't relate the new noise specifically to
the date we received the box because I wasn't at the dials much
during that period but it does seem coincidental. Has anyone out
there in IRCAland experienced this?
