I think these are called "Julian Creek" sets. A whole bunch of them turned
up several years ago. As far as I know, they shaped up and played OK. Took
a lot of work, but the elements didn't do nearly the damage that you'd
expect. Shows what neat set the R-390A is. AND
I'm glad that more are showing up.
The one I advertised for $550 here on IRCA I bought from the late, great
Ernest R. Cooper in 1985. I was on Okinawa (USMC Air Station Futenma) at
the time, and I had to get Ernie to sign a notarized letter that he was
selling it to me before it could be shipped from MA to Okinawa. Still have
it with all the set's paperwork.
I acquired another set that works fine, but needs cleaning and a general
overhaul.
That and my own set just take up too much space, and that's why I selling
my own. I just overhauled the R-F on my set.
It's a Motorola s/n 4823 according to the nomenclature tag, but most of the
modules are Electronics Assistance Corp. (a captive corp. of Hammarlund set
up to build R-390As on federal contract).
