Re: [IRCA] Here it Comes....FCC To Release IBOC Rules Next Week

Bill,

That is totally true, but how many people regularly can view a good
grade A picture from outside their DMA? Few can. But Dish or Direct
could sell any market to anyone. But legally they are not allowed to,
and their local cities are mostly on spot beams now anyway. I have been
told (off the record) that AM & FM stations want the same protection. A
station in LA does not want someone listening to a station in San
Francisco. With many of the same rules in buying programming that is
exclusive to your market. If a station in LA carries Rush, then they
have the rights and the station expects the person listening to Rush to
listen to their local station in LA, not a station in another market.
With digital radio such as IBOC, and doing away with analog, the IBOC
signals do not get out far enough to listen to another station outside
the DMA, so if you want to listen to Rush, you have to listen to him on
your local station. With analog, and the lower frequencies you cannot do
anything about a station skipping, but do away with analog, it is a
different story.
