I had DSL with EarthLink for a little over a year. The DSL
modem would resync many times a day, somedays as many times
as fifteen or more. I was able to track down the resyncing
problem with a very loud noise on the AM radio. The noise
occurred periodically through the day and would last for only
a few seconds. Everytime the noise occurred the modem would
disconnect. I was never able to get any help from EarthLink
or my local phone company, Verizon.
I cancelled my EarthLink DSL (a very difficult thing to do)
and went with a local DSL provider and there are no more
problems. During the cancellation process I learned that
EarthLink works through Covan who in turn works through
Verizon, my local phone company. My guess is that with
EarthLink/Covan/Verizon, the DSL signal they provided was
weak, but with the local DSL service who works directly with
Verizon, there is a stronger signal and interference doesn't
bother it.
I hope you have more success in resolving your trouble than I
had. If you get a person who really understands what's going
on the problem will probably get taken care of but if not,
well, be prepared to be frustrated.
