Charlie,

I just tried my R8. I hit the scan function and away it went. I turned
off the receiver, and turned it back on and no scanning. It operated
normally. So at least with the R8, it clears it. 
   Yes, Web TV can handle some graffics like Jpegs, but no pdfs.
