I think it's pretty clear that the FCC doesn't really give a rat's a$$ to
the "hobby" of AM DX, and look at AM broadcasts as a "local" service only.
If you want more regional and national services, a/o variety in your
listening, there's always the big boys on the nightly clear channels.
Outside of that, AM radio is for your local news supplemented with national
feeds, and of course, local advertising to keep the station afloat.
You could draw an analogy to AM radio with a decent local newsstand. Of
course, they're going to carry all of the local newspapers, and a select few
national papers. Outside of that, if you're looking for the Berryville, NV
_Crier_ in Asheville, NC, you're gonna be SOL.
