The vanilla R8 is dual-sideband sync detection.
There are no interference advantages other
than the obvious cancellation of multi-path
distortion and sideband fading.

My 7600G Sony, under certain circumstances
can out perform the R8 in providing exceptional
audio and adjacent channel rejection when
the Upper or Lower sideband is selected during
sync lock.
